Michael Krauthamer

Partner

Michael Krauthamer has focused on public sector labor relations since 1995, serving as labor counsel to the Firm’s school districts. He provides counsel on all labor relations and employment issues, offering representation in collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, disciplinary proceedings, civil service matters, and all proceedings before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB). He has handled complex investigations into employee conduct, litigated grievance arbitrations on various topics from collective bargaining agreements, and represented clients at PERB on representation matters and improper practice charges. He works closely with clients, providing workshops and guidance on labor and employment matters.

Prior to joining Ingerman Smith, Mr. Krauthamer was a partner in a Long Island law firm, where he represented municipalities, including school districts, counties, towns, and villages, in all types of labor and employment matters. He then gained valuable insights as a labor relations specialist for the New York State United Teachers. This union-side experience allows him to benefit employers by effectively navigating complex issues and fostering clear communication in labor relations. He also served as a labor arbitrator, mediator, and hearing officer, and as counsel to the Suffolk County Public Employment Relations Board.

Mr. Krauthamer has lectured extensively for the New York State Bar Association on public sector employment law issues and was listed in Long Island Business News “Who’s Who in Labor Law on Long Island.” He has appeared in the media discussing labor law issues. His teaching experience includes serving as an instructor at Dowling College on labor-management relations and dispute resolution, and as an adjunct professor teaching “School Law, Policy and Values” for the Sage Colleges, Esteves School of Education, as part of their Education Doctorate Degree Program. He is also a co-editor of Impasse Resolution Under the Taylor Law, published by the New York State Bar Association.
