Christopher M. Powers
Partner
Christopher Powers focuses his practice on litigation, representing school district clients in administrative and judicial proceedings. His work includes employee and student disciplinary matters pursuant to Education Law § 3020‑a, Civil Service Law § 75, and Education Law § 3214. He maintains regular contact with law enforcement agencies in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and is a member of various School District Threat Assessment Teams.
Mr. Powers regularly lectures on school-related topics including employee discipline, sexting, bullying, cyberbullying, DASA, the Schools Against Violence in Education Act, and child abuse in educational settings.
Before his legal career, Mr. Powers served as a Court Officer in Mineola, New York, while attending St. John’s University Law School at night. Upon admission to the Bar, he served for 11 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County, including four years in the Homicide Bureau where he prosecuted first and second-degree murder cases.
